CHAPTER 19

Grace was up early as usual. She let Lolly outside while she went to take a shower. She wanted to get the grocery shopping done before Olivia returned today.

Grace walked down the aisles piling food into her cart. She wanted to make sure the next time Olivia wanted to make dinner for them, her freezer would be full. She now had the butcher cut her a nice steak for lunch that she could throw on the grill. Next she bought eggs and bacon. Just in case she wants to stay tonight. Knowing they both had work the next day, she knew her wish probably wouldn’t happen tonight, but she would be ready whenever she had a chance to make Olivia breakfast.

Grace unloaded the groceries and went outside to clean the barbecue. While she scrubbed it clean, Lolly ran between the shrubs. “Get back here, Lolly.” Grace was about to follow her when she noticed Winnie in the yard petting her dog. They both came walking back. “Good morning, Winnie.”

“Morning, Grace.” She watched as Grace closed the barbecue. “Having another party?”

“No.” She was ready to say that Olivia was coming over when she paused.

“Is Olivia coming over?” she asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Yes. I’m making her lunch since she made dinner for me last night.” Grace finally admitted.

“Oh, she did?” Winnie asked smirking.

“Yes.”

“You like her, don’t you?” Grace nodded. “Good. Penny and I like you too.”

“Winnie, can I ask you a question?” Grace asked, approaching a subject she wasn’t sure Winnie would be comfortable talking about.

“How long have you and Penny been together?”

“A long time, but the whole story would take some time to tell you.” Winnie dropped her hands onto Grace’s shoulders. “One day I’ll sit down and tell you the whole sordid story.”

“You don’t have to, Winnie. I was just wondering.”

“I’d like to, but not today. I’m sure you have plenty to do before Olivia gets here.”

“Thanks, Winnie.”

“Have fun, Grace,” Winnie said, waving her hand over her shoulder as she walked back to her own property.

All morning, Olivia paced her apartment with the phone in her hand. “Send her a text.” No matter how many times she said that to herself, she just couldn’t do it. She wanted to see her and more importantly, she couldn’t wait to kiss her again. Looking at the clock, Olivia knew she could do nothing but get into her car and drive over to her house.

Olivia rang the doorbell a few minutes later. Should I kiss her when she opens the door?

“Hi. Come on in,” Grace said smiling. “I missed you,” she admitted freely and was met with a wide smile in return. “I hope you’re hungry?”

“I could eat.” But that wasn’t really true. Olivia was nervous and excited. She turned and Grace walked into her arms. Grace had taken away her concern and kissed her softly. “Thank you,” she whispered.

Grace smiled. “Would you like something to drink?”

“Maybe later.” Olivia followed Grace toward the kitchen. “What are you making?”

“I thought I would throw a steak on the grill.
